2-day hill trip tour to Mai Chau


The small town – Mai Chau itself is unappealing, but just outside the patchwork of rice fields rolls out, speckled by tiny Thai villages where visitors doss down for the night in traditional stilt houses and wake up to a rural soundtrack defined by gurgling irrigation streams and birdsong. Going from Hanoi for nearly 160 km to Mai Chau, the visitors enter another world with the type of stilt houses, or pile dwellings made of bamboo or timber.

Day 1

7.30: Depart from Hanoi to Mai Chau. Scenic photo stop along the way and visit the Muong tribes and then Thung Khe Pass for a spectacular view of Mai Chau Valley.

An idyllic valley home to many hill tribes including the Dzao, Muong and Thai. Arrive in Mai Chau around noon, check in your room and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon (14:00 – 17:00), biking to explore Mai Chau beautiful ethnic villages namely Na Thia, Nhot, Pom Coong, Lac and Chieng Chau villages. Be welcomed by the friendly local people, talk with local people and discover traditional culture. Total cycling time is around 2 – 3 hours on flat village paths. Take it all in: the spectacular scenery of Mai Chau and the relaxed rhythm of local life.

For evening enjoyment, you may choose to take part in a traditional dance show with Ruou Can (a local wine), a cooking class, a weaving class or all.

Day 2

7:30:Wake up and eat breakfast

8:30 – 11:00:Hiking to visit 1000 Step Cave or Chieu Cave. Visit local market

The Sunday market is the busiest social event of the week. People from all of the surrounding villages gather to sell their wares and catch up with friends.

Pa Co Marketis just 20km from Mai Chau and is open every Sunday.Here you can see the local H’mong people dressed in their finest attire, the colourful weaving of their outfits enhanced by the bright sun. The stalls of colourful brocade are accompanied by other handmade items, local produce and the occasional animal or two.

12:15 – 15:00: Lunch and free time to relax before getting on the van to Hanoi
18:30 -19:00: Drop you off at your hotel
